The blog I have chosen to write about for my essay is Big Questions Online. Picking a blog was very hard for me and I didn’t really know what I was doing. Most blogs just talked about the latest news or the juiciest scandal. But what caught my attention on Big Questions Online is that the first thing I saw was the question “Why Should Scientists Care About Religion?”. Seeing an article with that title completely blew me away. I became hooked jumping from article to article. But what I really wanted to figure out was if the blog was biased or not. Because obviously, everyone has their own beliefs about religion and their own beliefs about science. I wondered if this would be a blog that pushed you into believing one way by using rhetorical devices and other concepts. As I began to read the article I was shocked. The author states that he is a scientist and a Muslim which really shocked me. He tried to convince others with his spiritual beliefs to look into modern science and vice versa with his fellow scientist colleagues. The article wasn’t biased at all and looked at each view in every perspective. The author Nidhal Guessoum states “It may be obvious that we cannot ignore science, with its methods and results. But it would also be beneficial to humanity if science and scientists not only refrained from trying to erase all that religion can provide and insisting on purely rational behaviors but also gleaned some of the positive contributions that it can make to humanity. There is more to the world than science can see. . .” I hope that all the other articles on this blog look at any situation in the same way by viewing all sides of the problem. It makes me question if maybe I’m blindsided to a biased opinion or not. Or if others see something in a different way than I do. Then I went to the discussion and saw others people’s arguments and perspectives. This blog will be great to write my paper on since it deals with so many discussions that cannot obviously have a right or wrong answer.
